The Enacted Budget actions provide access to affordable health insurance for all children, and reforms the Family Health Plus and Medicaid enrollment processes to make it easier for adults and children to renew and maintain their public health insurance coverage.
As part of the 2007-08 Enacted Budget, the Governor and Legislature also made significant investments totaling nearly $20 million in new funding for critical public health priorities targeting primary care and preventative systems. These initiatives include:
Expands access to cervical cancer vaccines | $5 million |
Public education re: mammography, colorectal screening, infection control, prenatal care and green cleaning products | $5 million |
Childhood lead poisoning prevention | $3 million |
Prenatal and postpartum home visits | $2.1 million |
Breast and Ovarian Cancer Screening | $1.1 million |

The Enacted Budget also invests approximately $180 million in the State's public health system. These critical investments include:
Anti-smoking initiatives | $95 million |
Nutritional programs | $5 million in new funding brings to $41 million total |
School Based Health Clinics | $20.4 million |
Family planning services | $18.8 million |
Emergency contraception education, training and outreach | $2.6 million |
System improvements to track contagious diseases like measles and tuberculosis | $2.5 million |
Asthma services | $1.5 million |
