Mission
The Office of the State Inspector General (OIG) is responsible for detecting, investigating, deterring and eliminating corruption, fraud, criminal activity, conflicts of interest, abuses and waste in the State entities under its jurisdiction. OIG's authority also extends to all contractors and vendors conducting business with the State.
Organization and Staffing
The head of OIG is the State Inspector General who is appointed by the Governor and remains in office until the end of the appointing Governor's term. The Office is headquartered in Albany and has offices in New York City and Buffalo.
Budget Highlights
The FY 2024 Executive Budget recommends a $9.8 million All Funds appropriation to support an agency workforce of 80 FTEs. This is a $1.4 million increase from the previous fiscal year attributed to general salary increases and funding to update legacy systems and other resources to help the agency better meet its mission. The agency's workforce estimate remains unchanged from the previous fiscal year.
Program Highlights
In addition to their core mission, the OIG provides dedicated oversight for ongoing planning, design and construction of large-scale infrastructure projects throughout the State and conducts independent audits of the State's 22 public forensic testing laboratories. Additionally, the OIG provides training to state entities under their jurisdiction, preventing violations before they occur.
