Mission
The Office of the State Inspector General (OIG) is responsible for detecting, investigating, deterring and eliminating corruption, fraud, criminal activity, conflicts of interest, abuses and waste in the State entities under its jurisdiction. OIG's authority also extends to all contractors and vendors conducting business with the State.
Organization and Staffing
The head of OIG is the State Inspector General who is appointed by the Governor and remains in office until the end of the appointing Governor's term. The Office is headquartered in Albany and has offices in New York City and Buffalo.
Budget Highlights
The FY 2022 Executive Budget recommends $7.8 million All Funds. This is an $584,000 increase from the previous fiscal year attributed to the merger of the Gaming Inspector General into the State Inspector General and increased lease costs. The agency’s workforce totals 80 FTEs, which is an increase of four FTEs from the previous fiscal year attributed to consolidation.
Program Highlights
In addition to their core mission, the OIG provides dedicated oversight for the ongoing planning, design and construction of large scale infrastructure projects like the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, the Jacob Javits Convention Center, and the Moynihan Train Hall. In addition, the OIG also provides training to state entities under their jurisdiction, preventing violations before they occur. Additionally, the Gaming IG will be consolidated into the State OIG, increasing the OIG’s FTEs by four and their appropriation by $474,000 million.
