Mission

The mission of the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) is to provide safe and enjoyable recreational and interpretive opportunities for all New York State residents and visitors and to be responsible stewards of our valuable natural, historic, and cultural resources.

Budget Highlights

The Executive Budget recommends $390 million for OPRHP, a decrease of approximately $21 million from the FY 2016 budget. This change results primarily from the discontinuation of a one-time FY 2016 increase of $20 million in the Parks New York Works capital program as well as a transfer to the Office of Information Technology Services for centralized support of technology-related initiatives and operational solutions.

The Executive Budget recommends a workforce of 1,735 FTEs for OPRHP in FY 2017, unchanged from FY 2016 levels.
