Mission

The Office of the State Inspector General's mission is to ensure that State government maintains the highest standards of integrity and accountability. The Office investigates allegations of corruption, fraud, criminal activity, conflicts of interest and abuse in Executive Branch agencies, departments, divisions, offices, boards and commissions, certain public authorities and public benefit corporations, the heads of which are appointed by the Governor and which do not have their own Inspector General by statue.

In February 2015, Governor Cuomo appointed the State Inspector General as the Workers' Compensation Fraud Inspector General. As such, the Office also conducts and supervises investigations of possible fraud and other violations of laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the operation of the workers' compensation system.

Budget Highlights

The FY 2017 Executive Budget recommends $7.2 million All Funds ($6.9 million in General Fund, $200,000 in Federal and $100,000 in Other Funds) for the Office, an increase of $350,000 from the 2015-16 budget. The $150,000 increase in General Fund appropriation reflects additional resources required to maintain the current level of operations, while the $200,000 increase in Federal appropriation is related to the potential receipt of seized assets from investigations. The workforce of 109 FTEs remains unchanged.
