Mission

The Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) is charged with preserving the integrity of the Medicaid program by conducting and coordinating fraud, waste and abuse control activities for all State agencies responsible for services funded by the Medicaid program. In fulfilling this role, the Office conducts and supervises all prevention, detection, and investigation activities and makes recommendations to these agencies for improvement. In addition, the Medicaid Inspector General works closely with the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud and Control Unit (MFCU) and Federal and local law enforcement officials.

Budget Highlights

The Executive Budget recommends $66.5 million for OMIG. This is a decrease of $8.3 million from the 2012-13 budget. The decrease primarily reflects annualization of staff attrition and other operational efficiencies.

The Executive Budget recommends a workforce of 486 FTEs for the Agency. This is an increase of 10 FTEs from the 2012-13 budget. This increase will provide additional staffing resources to address mission critical needs.
