The State Education Department (SED) has a current year savings target of $14.6 million. The target reflects the Governor’s order for a 10.35 percent reduction in projected agency spending.
SED is currently expected to achieve its entire $14.6 million spending reduction target.
Major Savings Initiatives
SED is already in the process of implementing the following actions to achieve their savings target:
Workforce Reduction: SED is in the process of reducing its workforce by 76 positions, from 3,296 to 3,220, through attrition.
Reduce Discretionary Expenses: SED has reduced discretionary expenses, including travel, publications, equipment, and contractual services, in order to ensure adequate funds are remaining for core agency services.
