The Office of the Medicaid Inspector General’s (OMIG) current-year savings target is $3.5 million, reflecting the Governor’s order for a 10.35 percent reduction in projected agency spending. The Office is currently expected to achieve its entire $3.5 million spending reduction target.
Major Savings Initiatives
The Office is already in the process of implementing the following actions to achieve its savings target by:
Reassessing the timing of new hires, managing vacancies and limiting non-personal service expenditures to critical needs and evaluating the use of existing contracts. OMIG expects that it will have a year-end workforce fill level of 679, a reduction from its initial target of 753 FTEs. OMIG plans to fill up to the 753 target in 2009-10. These are auditor and investigator positions needed to achieve the budgeted audit savings target.
